Why?

Thanks to my lovely roommate, I've developed a mild addiction to Yahoo!Answers. A gem from this evening:
Someone asked why hydrogen was grouped on the periodic table with alkali metals.
An answer: dumass. it's not man maid. and its because it has only one election in its orbit.
