Oh yeah and...

Bruce Springsteen was on campus for Parents' Weekend. I didn't see him, but apparently he was at the Pops concert and the URI football game. I think Springsteen's okay, but I'm not completely crazy about him.

I just think the song Dancing in the Dark is ridiculously amazing. I heard it on the radio and wanted to dance just like him in this video, but it was ill-advised since I was working.

Some things that are less depressing...

One of my nursing professors sent us this sentence thing in an email:

"Also students please communicate me with you BC e-mail - when communicating with me. thanks"
It gives me hope that I can one day teach a nursing theory class at Boston College.

I listen to the radio now! WFNX!

Jon Lester is pitching in the first Red Sox playoff game on Wednesday! Screw clinicals, of course I'm watching. Jon Lester is so friggin' badass.

Palin, economy, failures.

“I have to admit, though, he’s a great debater, and he looks pretty doggone confident, like he’s sure he’s going to win,’’ Ms. Palin, 44, said of Mr. Biden, 65. “But then again, this is the same Senator Biden who said the other day that University of Delaware would trounce the Ohio State Buckeyes. Wrong!”

I would do the whole watching the debate/drinking thing, but 1. I have band 2. the debate would just depress me. I'll watching the Daily Show and see the fun stuff that I missed.

WHAT IF SARAH PALIN IS ELECTED VICE-PRESIDENT. When McCain picked his running VP he knew the economy was going down the tubes. Why didn't he pick someone that was familiar with the economy? If he had, he could probably take advantage of this whole economy failure thing. McCain is stupid. I'm a moderate. I like to consider both parties, but I've thought about this long enough: I'm not voting McCain/Palin.

777 - isn't that like an angelic number or something? At least it didn't crash at 666 or something...

Well maybe that would have been better, but does it really matter at this point?

Trying to look on the sunny side of life is a little hard in these times.

Yeah, so...

The green line kicks me when I'm down. I overslept by an hour and a half this morning, so was going to be very late to the MFA. Things went smoothly until Park St where I waited about fifteen minutes for a train to come. Everyone was growing rather impatient, as one would imagine. The train that rolls in first is a B train. Disappointing, yes, but there is another train right behind it. Alas, it's B train. Seriously? Everyone begins murmuring a general whatthefuck and a train pulls up to the other side of the platform in the D train slot. But it's an E train. I'm glad yet hesitant butI got on it anyway and luckily I arrived at the right place. But come on, MBTA. wtf.

Sorry it's taken so long!

Lots of things have happened since I've written last!

My trumpet got destroyed. Not from the rain, however, but I'm assuming someone knocked it off a table because when I came to get it the mouthpiece was stuck and the bell was twisted and bent. Thanks, whoever you are. It'll probably cost at least a hundred dollars.

I probably failed a pharm exam because of band. I studied whenever I could, but 9 hours of band in one week certainly didn't help.

I like working at the hospital! I like knowing what I'm doing and it's becoming less awkward, always a plus.

This is amazing:

I was going to do that green team thing at the Sox/Yankees game today (I'm watching it now) but my grandmother came for mass and it was kinda nice.

It rained all weekend. Of course it had to be beautiful when I was in pharm hell.

Heroes.... eh...

The Red Sox retired Johnny Pesky's number! I met him. He is cute and nice. You know who's also cute?

Dustin Pedroia! Who apparently is also a baby goose murderer. Oh well. It made him the tiny baseball player he is today.

I'm going to watch the rest of the Red Sox game although I should be doing work. Later.

Opinions?

One of the essay questions on my study abroad application (incidentally, the one I'm less invested in) is: Why do you think you are a good candidate for study abroad?

I'm seriously inclined to answer "Because I'm not a douche." Which is true, concise, and applicable, yet most likely not appropriate.

Suggestions?

Ok, so...

I swear I'm not an internet troll...I swear I'm not an internet troll. But Yahoo!Answers is just such a tempting playground....

Believe it or not, I'm actually a very nice person.

What's up with...

...this week and having a shit ton of work. Seriously. It's not cool. At all. I have a quiz on Wednesday and a Pharmacology exam ( a HUGE one) on Friday. And tomorrow I'm working from 8:30 to 12:30, then going to lab from 1-3, then doing band from 4:15-10. We're playing the national anthem at Fenway tomorrow, which is really cool and I'm looking forward to it, but I'd be completely fine with it if the band didn't practice until 10. I mean, I know we need work on our Sargent Pepper show, but GAHHHHH. And they told us to bring our own food. FUCK THAT. Why the hell wouldn't they give us food if they're making us do all this stuff? Maybe the Red Sox will be nice and give us Fenway Franks. But they probably won't. And I have other shit to do, including redoing an assignment that I did wrong on Wednesday night. Also, this weekend is Parents' Weekend. Ew. And I was supposed to do laundry tonight, but I forgot because I have so much work to do. Basically my band shirt and socks are going to be very stinky tomorrow at Fenway. I feel like my daily activities are limited to nursing, marching, and making sandwiches. Sometimes I sleep and shower. Sometimes.

So

I'm really really tired of Charmin commercials. Just thought I'd share.

You know you've made it when...

Tyra Banks can legitimately call you stupid. For some unknown reason, I decided to actually watch the Tyra Show today, rather than just hear it made fun of on The Soup. The show was about teen pregnancy and so she had about 10 girls ranging from age 12 to 17 as guests, some currently pregnant, some with kids, and some who wanted to get pregnant. Yes, wanted to get pregnant. Some reasons include:
  • Jamie Lynn Spears had a baby, so why can't I?
  • I want a baby shower...there's just so many cute games you play and you get presents. (Tyra suggested just having a birthday party. I wonder if anyone's ever had a baby shower-themed birthday party? Maybe the girl could throw one for her fourteenth)
  • I think it will bring my ex-boyfriend back and make him love me. (it was revealed that he had said he didn't want a kid now or ever and already had her get two abortions)
  • I just know I'd be a good mother. I can change a diaper.
  • Babies are cute
One, upon being asked how much money she thinks one needs to support a child per year, she said seven-thousand dollars.

I just have no idea what to say about it all. They were all so clueless. Tyra actually called them all stupid and I thought it was fabulous. When someone who decided to (and thought it was a good idea to) dress up as "The Good Fierce Witch" on another show they produce, you know you're truly foolish.

I wish I could say more, but I really have nothing to say. It was just absolutely shocking. More so than that Maury video of the "I wanna baby" girl that circulated a while ago.

Condoms people, condoms.

P.S. One of the girls legitimately looked like a Bratz doll. She had the tiniest giant lips I've ever seen.

Today I learned...

that I am left-eyed. Perhaps it explains my proclivity towards the left. I am right-handed, however. I learned this at the Museum of Science's College Night, where I got in free. It was fabulous.

And God saw that this was good.

  • I like my Hebrew Bible class a lot. It's such a departure from nursing classes that it's actually refreshing. I'm a little sad that I took it pass/fail because I'm actually motivated to do work for it.
  • I also really like working at Hillside. I like working there when it's really busy and I don't have to clean anything/stand there awkwardly.
  • Today at Hillside a certain hockey player had an actual conversation with me and it was amazing.
  • I like Kanye West a ton, but I hate his new song "Love Lockdown." I thought maybe the performance at the VMAs was just crappy, but no. The recorded song is actually a shit sandwich as well.
  • I made the perfect omelet yesterday and I was very proud.
  • It kinda reminded me of this scene in Ratatouille because it was so perfect. I love that scene because of the tiny omelet. I love tiny things.
  • The Red Sox hit SIX home runs in tonight's game against Tampa Bay. Holy crap.
  • The day after Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano pitched a no-hitter against the Astros, teammate Ted Lilly almost had one of his own. Crazy nuts.
  • Maybe no-hitters come (or almost come) in pairs? Or maybe Jason Varitek is just that badass.
  • I can't wait for hockey season to start.
  • I can't do my schoolwork until I've cleaned my room (or at least made my bed). And I don't want to clean my room or do schoolwork so I'm in a pickle.
  • Today was a beautiful day.
  • I wonder if anyone else reads this blog besides me and Katherine.
  • I wonder who else voted in our poll.
  • I want to start making friendship bracelets again.
  • I need to finish the book "World Without End."
  • Haha "world without end," more like "book without end" lolz.
  • Ok I'm seriously going to go do work now.
  • ...sort of.

While we're at it...

Lisa Nova also does a pretty good Palin.

Bullseye!

Tina Fey as Sarah Palin on SNL (video)

Oh my god this sketch almost makes me want Palin to get elected as vice president so Tina Fey can continue to play her. Oh wait. No. No, No, No. I take that back.

Why?

Thanks to my lovely roommate, I've developed a mild addiction to Yahoo!Answers. A gem from this evening:
Someone asked why hydrogen was grouped on the periodic table with alkali metals.
An answer: dumass. it's not man maid. and its because it has only one election in its orbit.

Marvelous.

Pedroia is so friggin' cute.

Boston Red Sox's Dustin Pedroia, left, smiles as Toronto Blue Jays' Lyle Overbay protests being called out at second base in the ninth inning of a baseball game, Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, in Boston. The Red Sox won 4-3.

I propose that Dustin Pedroia is just the cutest thing to ever wear a Red Sox uniform. Except maybe David Ortiz's son.

Oh yeah and don't get Vandersliced. Laundry is a tricky business.

The dryer battle...

In the immortal words of Tommy's Hitler, at the end of The Real World: Europa....

AYE WAN EEET!

Speaking of which, you should watch: The Real World: Europa

My rant installment.

I've been trying to do my laundry all day and the laundryview website has been less than reliable, unfortunately. About a half-hour ago I went down to the laundry room, where there was one washer about three minutes from being done and two others with about twenty minutes left. There was a guy waiting for the soon-to-be-done washer, which was fine, and I joked with him about how I've had terrible luck with my laundry today and definitely said I'd be coming back in about fifteen minutes.
So I go back to my room and wait until the other washers are due to be finished. When I go back to the laundry room, I pass the guy who had been waiting before and he gives me what I would deem a slightly guilty look. I enter the washer/dryer area only to discover that he's taken up the BOTH the other washers with his stuff and taken the other person's wet laundry out.
I try not to remove other people's laundry. Sometimes, if necessary, I'll take clothes out of the dryer, but I draw the line at taking clothes out of the washer unless they've been there for like three days. Also, I feel there's at least a ten-minute grace period between when someone's load is done and when they come to retrieve it.
On the machine-usage, I'm more of the pick one washer/dryer and monopolize it for the afternoon school. Occasionally, I may take up two washers, but only if the laundry room has been empty all day. It's generally douchey that he took up all three and even more so that he did it when he knew I was coming back. I'm tempted to hand-wash my stuff and take up all the dryers when his wash is due to be finished. However, that would be too much effort and I like to save my screwing-people energy for bigger and better conflicts.

And so it remains that I have no clean clothes.

UPDATE:
This guy is like King Asshole of laundry.
I go down to put my stuff in right when his first load should be finished. He's leaving the laundry room with a laundry bag. There's a fresh load of laundry in the washer. FOUR LOADS?! SERIOUSLY?
So I wait the ten or so minutes for the other washers to be done, wondering if he'll come to collect on time. No matter what, there isn't going to be a dryer ready for him to use. He comes back on time and starts taking his things out of one washer. As he does this, he's smelling/examining them. He turns to me and goes "I swear they're not even wet..." And I just give him a look. Kid, there's no way you're leaving your shit in a washer until the dryer is ready, especially when you know I've been waiting. Luckily, he takes his stuff out and I can start my one(1) load (ideally, I would have split it into two, but I'm not an asshole).

Prepare for the inevitable battle of the dryers.

RANT!

These are things that I don't like:

-watching video games while other people play them
-marching in a parade that is over 2 miles long, that has an attendance of about 7 people per mile
-marching behind the horses in said parade
-marching in rain jackets that are so moldy they are visibly growing spores
-sweating in your uniform with the sporing rain jacket over it when it's not even raining
-being so passive aggressive. why can't i stop?
-saying "I can't... I have band"
-watching our football team lose
-dealing with people who think unequivocally that Led Zeppelin is the greatest band ever. They are not.
-homework! especially if the directions aren't clear and while you do it you think it won't get counted because you don't think you're doing it right.
-Cancer. It sucks.
-my papercut that won't heal. wtf.

And other things! I'll try to update this more, I promise.

So

What's with all these (well, two) people in their 30s posing as middle and high school students? And how do school officials not notice?

Seventh grade, really?

This one is almost more unbelievable

I'm keeping my eye on...

George Kottaras. I was lucky enough to witness his Major League debut this afternoon and I like what I saw. The kid managed to get on base after technically striking out and ended up scoring the only run of the terrible, terrible game. And, of course, he' s a cutie.
David Aardsma replaced the unsuccessful Byrd as pitcher and I was initially impressed when he got two strikes for two pitches, but then let a massive one slip and gave Toronto their major major league.
And I wonder if Ellsbury has stolen as many hearts as bases...
It was still fun to go, even though we got completely owned by Toronto.

Ah well.
I don't understand Spanish.

I suppose this doesn't really need to be said and isn't completely up-to-the-minute, but...

Srsly, McCain?

There goes another moderate swing-vote.

Found!

In the drawer where I keep my pants...
Hm.

I need another level of eye correction beyond glasses and contacts.

For unknown reasons, I frequently misplace and then have a hard time finding brightly colored items in my room/apartment. I think this visual issue is extending, however, into very large items. I currently can't spot my English book anywhere and while it's reasonably bright blue, it's about the size of four normal text books combined. Considering the size of my room, it should be taking up half the floor. I need some sort of elf to find things for me. Or I suppose could just try having a tidy room

I like the first option better.

Varve.

I just enjoy the word.

Regarding grad students, one in my art history course last semester tried to convince us that Early Christians performed their rituals in Roman fashion so that they could easier infiltrate society. Going through Roman motions would be especially useful if someone was spying through the window.

An excellent argument. I suppose I'm snotty for finding it stupid, but I'm inclined to disagree, especially when the central theme of the day was cultural hybridity and the adaptation of known rituals to new religions. And by the fact the Christians were Romans and not aliens.

I'm probably just lofty and mean.

Tom Brady:(

He's officially out for the season. Sometimes I believe things are meant to happen, and this injury happened so weirdly and ironically that I can't help thinking that he's supposed to step aside and give someone else a chance to shine, and I'm not just talking about Matt Cassel. I'm very sad, but I'm actually really curious to see how the team compensates for his absence, if they do at all.

The football Gods were not shining upon Chestnut Hill, either. Our new starter isn't the best, and we could only come up with one touchdown for something like six trips into Georgia Tech's 20 yard line. I just hope the Crane is working on what he did wrong, so we can win games against better teams than Kent State. Crane is no Matt Ryan, but we didn't really expect him to be. I hope the rest of the team steps it up. I just want BC to win some games.

I have very high hopes for the Red Sox this season. They may not win the Series, but I think they'll do all right in the postseason (it looks like they'll make it). I'm also looking forward to hockey starting, I can't wait to go to BC hockey games again, and I might even follow the Bruins a little.

Also BC's Gasson Tower looks almost finished! Yay!

Yay for the Hebrew Bible

Yesterday I had my first Hebrew Bible class, and it was strange. Everyone else in the class was either a grad student (like a very old grad student) or major or minoring in theology. The professor (who is a Rabbi) went around the half-circle and we all had to say our names and majors and crap and why we were interested in the class. When I said I was a nursing major, one of the grad students whispered "interesting!" to another one. Yup, that was fun.

The workload for the coarse is light, I think (hope) it might be one of those easy courses that they want to scare undergrads away from. We will see.

OK so I don't know the exact way this whole blog thing will work, I'll probably end up blogging about random pop culture things such as music, sports, and movies. I'll also be complaining about classes a lot. Hurray!

Speaking of reading emails from student organizations...

The Archaeology/Classics club table at the student activities fair was actually fairly successful aujourd'hui. Last semester, we only had two "interested" people to sign up on our sheet, one our own construction designed to give attendees the false sense that people were actually interested in us. Today, we actually gained one-and-a-half sheets of notebook paper's worth of email addresses. And I didn't fake anything.

This leads me to the general topic of attracting interest and the role of free candy in getting attention. First, can I just say to all you prospective club-joiners to please please please not just cruise by the table and steal a piece of candy. Giving me a sheepish look won't help. I would much prefer it if you feigned interest for ten seconds and wrote down your roommate's email address. It doesn't help, I suppose, that I enjoy building temples, pyramids, and ring forts out of Reese's cups and York Peppermint Patties and my heart subsequently cracks a bit each time you uninterested IR and/or Quantitative Economics (with a minor in Peace and Justice studies) potential majors clip my capstone.*

It'd be one thing if you were a Gaul, stealing temple stones to build a "road" and subsequently dropping them on the heads of Legionary officers or if you were actually going to show up to our general interest meeting. However, you are not.

The moral of the story: don't steal candy--it's rude and your mother would be ashamed.

And that's actually all I have to say.

*I probably should never become a cake artist, because I'd probably get pissed if someone ate my chocolate-raspberry beret/lemon torpedo.

Jon Lester is officially my hero.

A few days ago, I signed up with BC's GreenTeam "to help Fenway recycle." I soon realized that:
1. The game was against the Rays, giving us a chance to get closer to them in the division race.
2. It was consecutive sellout #456 at Fenway, which passes the record for the most ever in the MLB.
3. BAMF Jon Lester was the probable starting pitcher.
I thought it would be fucking amazing, and it was.

I got to Fenway and waited with the other Greenteamers for instructions. Johnny Pesky, Tim Wakefield, Alex Cora, and Kevin Youkilis brushed past me while I was waiting (!). We got dinner, got to go around Fenway, then I was assigned to pick up recyclables in the Green Monster (!!) because I was one of the only upperclassmen (may this be a lesson to you all to check student government emails...). It was awesome, we couldn't pick up recyclables during play (because it was annoying) so we HAD TO WATCH THE GAME. For free. In the Green Monster. At the bottom of the 7th inning, we were relieved of our duties and allowed to sit wherever we wanted, so I sat myself in the Monster and enjoyed the win (3-0). And now we're only a half game behind the Rays Fuck yeah.

This is what I felt like afterwards:
Sort of.

Brains.

This isn't really related to anything I intend to blog about, but I found it pretty amusing.

Indeed, it is so late.

Jon Lester is lovely. I think that Molly should vote for him in our wonderful Red Sox poll. I'm going to sleep too, but I don't have class until 3. And I am pumped for said class, as we are discussing Beowulf.
Thank you.

It is so late.

Why the hell do I stay up this late all the time? All I do is dick around on the internet. It never accomplishes anything either.

I'm waking up at 7 tomorrow, having b-fast then going to work, then going to my Hebrew Bible class (yeah, I don't know why I picked it either, but hopefully I'll like it). Then I'm doing this Greenteam thing at Fenway which I totes signed up for. Gotta get there at 5, but I'm collecting recyclables throughout the game, which means I'll get watch the Sox game. They're playing Tampa Bay, and this series is going to be pivotal. Plus Jon Lester is pitching (and I want him):

Who wouldn't? Anyways, in the sports world I'm focusing on baseball a lot more because this weekend has been horrible for football. I'm mourning the loss of two #12's: Matt Ryan and Tom Brady, and my heart can't take it anymore. It sounds like Brady's ACL that was hurt, and this is bad. If he's out for the rest of the season... I don't even want to think about it. Don't even get me started on the Crane. I'll probably have to make him a sandwich tomorrow too. 'Night!

Bonjour

This was the security code: wnursyg. I found it amusing because it's sort of like nurse/nursing, like Molly. An auspicious start.

And I thought Russell Brand was fabulous at the VMAs.
