In pharm class!

I'm such a good student. I went to Dunks before class and now I'm really hyper and unable to channel my energy into my love of the study of drugs. Lo siento, mucho profesora.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

The Phillies won the World Series after a complete Game 5 washout. They couldn't finish game 5 until two days after it started. How silly.

The Bruins are doing pretty well. I think I'm beginning to like them more than the Penguins, probably because I can watch all of their games. Sidney Crosby was injured somehow in last night's Penguins game and I hope he's okay. OMG I am so lame.

So yesterday I came back from MGH at 2, bought some Hillside and watched Pushing Daisies. By the way, Kristin Chenowith can say like two words in that show and it's amazing. In this week's episode it was "ohh! sparkley!" Anyways, I proceeded to take a nap at 3 and when I was laying in bed I thought "hmmm maybe I should set the alarm on my cellphone, or at least turn it off silent. oh well I'm too tired." I was woken up at 7:15 by my roommate who was like
-"Hey Molly, don't you have that thing?"
+"No. I went to MGH already. I don't have class until later."
-"Don't you have band?"
+"It's Friday. There's no band on Friday."
-"Molly it's Thursday night."
Crap! I went to band and I couldn't get into Conte Forum because of the hockey game, but I saw someone who used to do band and they called someone to let me in. I felt very refreshed both at band and today. Maybe four hour naps pay off.

Pharm class is over!

And I can't fucking sleep.

WHAT THE HELL

Ahhhhh!

I burned my hand! Ouch!

Why do I always get random, inconvenient injuries. As opposed to purposeful, useful ones, of course.

I need Nurse Molly.

It's over.

Yup, the Red Sox lost last night against the Tampa Bay Rays, enabling the Rays to advance to the World Series and the Red Sox to advance to.. golf. Maybe it's all this school stuff I have to do, but I really didn't take it that hard.

Dan Shaugnessy, sports writer for the Boston Globe, said "It feels like Super Bowl XLII all over again. History derailed. Again." Yeah... no. It was nothing like this year's (last year's?) Super Bowl. People expected the Patriots to remain perfect, and they lost. The Super Bowl loss against the Giants was EMBARRASSING. Going into this post-season, I didn't really expect a World Series win. I expected good, entertaining baseball and that's what I got. After all the Red Sox had to deal with this season, with the multiple injuries, that Manny trade, and the slumping batters (why, Tek, why?), they were far from perfect. And history? We won last year and 2004. We can still have a "dynasty." There's always next season.

In some ways, I made my peace with the ending of the Red Sox season on Thursday. It was sort of like a near-death experience. We were losing by 7 runs! How could we win? But we did. We extended the series two more games and put up a good fight. It's admirable: the Rays are a very talented team. I was pleased to read that the sentiment around the clubhouse was that the Rays deserved it and that they were the better team. After we knocked the Angels out, John Lackey bitched about how the Angels were a better team than the Red Sox. Wrong. The better team advanced to the ALCS, and now the better team is advancing to the World Series. That's how it works.

There are some very memorable moments from this season:
  • The ring ceremony
  • Bill Buckner throwing out the first pitch of the season
  • Jon Lester's no-hitter
  • JD Drew's June
  • The Rays/Sox fist fight
  • Manny's 500th home run
  • Manny to LA
  • Bay to Boston
  • Sellout #456
  • Making the playoffs
  • Game 4 walk-off win to clinch the ALDS
  • Game 5 of ALCS down by 7 in the 7th with 7 outs to go comeback, walk-off double by #7
  • Jon Lester = a beast
  • Dustin Pedroia and Kevin Youkilis all the time
Remember all the good times!

I still have the Bruins, who have their home opener tonight against Sidney Crosby and the Penguins. You know I'll be watching. There's also
BC hockey and football to blog about. I'm traveling to UNC with a pep ensemble for the football game on Saturday! And I'm also insanely busy with nursing, band, and Hillside. I think I'll be OK without the Sox. Will you?

Another season comes to an end.

Doubtless Molly will be able to give a better rundown than I. It's disappointing that we didn't win, but I think we played a fair game. If only we hadn't dicked around earlier in the series. Some of the TB fans (yeah, you guys have TB too, I bet) were really assholes, flashing loser signs and what not. I really wanted Kotsay to chuck a bat at one of them.

What are we going to do without baseball?

In other news, I made pumpkin muffins today. Mini-muffins, even. Oh yeah. However, I shouldn't have left them unprotected during my five-hour nap, as of the 21 that were there when last checked, 3 were left after I came back out of my room. I made pumpkin cookies too. They're less excellent than the muffins, but I blame the recipe and lack of icing.

OH MY GOD ARE YOU SERIOUS?!

Dear Red Sox,

I love you.

Thanks!

If I could make love to any writing utensil...

It would be to any one of my Pilot pens.
very sexy.

No comment on the Red Sox situation until Thursday. There's no point in jumping to conclusions or wallowing in utter despair. I have pumpkin muffins to eat. Good day.

Oh my God...

Seriously, Red Sox? Really?

Your Emperor Has Returned

I'm back on Cape for the weekend and I'm glad it's not raining. In fact, it's very nice outside and I took a trip to the Hot Chocolate Sparrow to do work and was semi-productive.

So last night was the hockey season opener and banner night. Nathan Gerbe came back! It was dramatic.
Gerbe (left) and Matt Greene (right) help raise the banner (Wade).

The game was good. It was like a we score, they score kind of deal. A froshie scored the game winner! Awww, welcome to BC.

In other news, despite being home I'm swamped in schoolwork and the Red Sox won over the Rays last night to lead the series 1-0. Yay! And (from mlb.com):

"Dustin Pedroia's stubborn attitude is just one of the things that endears him to his teammates. 'I love him. I love that guy,' Red Sox slugger David Ortiz said. 'One way or the other, the little man had to let people know he was around. I love him, man. He's got the good kind of cocky. He's a trash talker, but it's the kind of trash that puts you in a good mood. I love it.'"
I have officially decided that Droi-droi and Ortiz should just divorce their wives and get married.

The end times?

So the lady on my E-train this morning was possessed or something. There was this clip awhile back involving an insanely Christian woman on WifeSwap freaking out and sounding demonic. It was exactly how the lady on the T sounded. She would just yell random things and I was having a hard time not giggling. I'm fairly certain if she saw me smirk she would have eaten me or something.
She yelled a lot about the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Made some comment about the government spearing female eggs. And she said "Cults!" a lot. Oh, and talked about transvestites. I'm sad I can't remember more. I will update if I do!
She ended up getting into a confrontation with someone and was kicked off.

We win!

That game was a nail-bitter. My facebook friend, Justin Masterson, squandered Lester's 2-0 lead by tying it in the 8th, but we won in walk-off fashion in the ninth. All's well that ends well, eh?

Thing that the announcers said about Lester last night that made me giggle the most:

"Lester is a boy becoming a man. His body is changing..."

I miss the NESN announcers.

OMG LOOK AT JASON BAY'S DAUGHTER

I'm studying for my competency exam. There are a few things that I'm not sure of. I don't wanna fail!
UPDATE: my competency was fairly easy! I'm competent!

Yeah!

I totally came up with a dirty evolution joke!!

And go Sox!

The Jo(h)ns Part 2

GAME 4, Series at 2-1 (Sox). They need one more game to clinch the series and move onto the American League Championship Series.
(See my previous post about the Jo(h)ns)

Lester was dominant for most of the last game and won. The score for Game 1 was 4-1.

Lackey is lacking, Lester is bester. 'Nuff said

Pedroi-droi needs a hit.

We did this Superfan photo shoot thing with the hockey players tonight. I kind of forgot how hockey players smell like dirty laundry. It was cool, but a little awkward. Also I thought someone was going to step on my foot with an ice skate... again.

Debate tonight!

So they say Sarah Palin has won a bunch of debates before. But who was she debating against, a cucumber? I'm interested in seeing what she says.

Update: She looks like she's doing the crossword while Biden is giving his answer to the first question.

Update: She mentioned parents and soccer games. Drink!

Update: She said "nuke u lar"

So this is completely bizarre

and I'm sorry to disturb you, but the captions are amazingly amusing. Mad props.
Creepy...

The Jo(h)ns: Lester vs. Lackey

"I'm a fucking bad-ass."

Jon Lester is pitching for the Red Sox in Game 1 of the American League Division Series against John Lackey of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Although Josh Beckett is the ace, he is injured (AH!) so the next best guy is rightfully getting the start. Let's see how Lester does against John Lackey.
He already beats him in a few categories.
1. Looks!
2. Team (duh)
3. Ability to throw a no-hitter*
*(note: John Lackey had a no-hitter going into the ninth against the Red Sox...omg, but my other favorite Dustin Pedroia broke it up)

Also, I'm doing something that will be considered a "poor choice" and staying up to see this whole game. I have to wake up at 5 to go to Mass General for clinicals tomorrow. Just pitch your best, Lesty. Go Red Sox!
