Blame it on the anthro major, but I find this horribly damaging and banal. I think I need to find a new world, if this is "A Woman's World." Jesus Christ. It's like everything Sarah Haskins talks about in Target Women....but serious...in one tiny animated show...promoting chips....
Speaking of chips, I tried these awesome cinnamon tortilla chips the other day.

I have developed a strange obsession with this song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxAXmMpEiMw
The video is a bit bizarre, but I can't get the song out of my head. I think the lyrics are wonderful and capture emotions quite well. I just do, ok?
We saw them perform as openers for the Decemberists on Tuesday night. I realized that this song came preloaded on my zune, so had heard it before. Though the auditory deja vu (deja entendu?) could have come from glam/Beatles references. Hitchcock's voice is an interesting blend.
The Decemberists themselves were fantastic. They played through all of Hazards of Love, which I'm warming up to, and had a fantastic and lengthy encore of some old excellence. I was particulary thrilled that they played "July July,""Eli the Barrowboy," and "O Valencia," among others. If they swapped out Summersong for "The Engine Driver," it might have been perfect.
To finish off the excellent evening, the Red Sox beat the Yankees 7-0! w00t.

100!
This is the 100th post. In lieu of writing a fantastic entry to commemorate the occasion, I choose simply to acknowledge it. :)

Sunday Afternoon
So I've given in (well, I suppose I was never really fighting it) and installed the Stumble-upon toolbar in Firefox. Unfortunately, I found a couple fantastic food websites so have been drooling for the past hour-and-a-half or so at multiple amazing recipes. I'd like to think I'll try them when I get home, especially with ingredients from my garden, but I may not be quite so industrious.
Here's a few of the best:
This one is what did me in. It was the photos : http://www.tastespotting.com/
From the first site, I got to this one. Definitely will hit a few of these up: http://www.norecipes.com/
And this just looked fun: Margarita Cupcakes
In terms of my culinary inventiveness lately, I made a great dish on Wednesday night. I sauteed some onions and garlic in a pan, then added spinach. Added chopped tomatoes and basil (from a can) and cooked it down. Tossed in some fusilli, et voila.
Thursday afternoon made a soup with onion, fusilli, chicken stock, and carrots. Stock cubes are my new favorite thing. Thursday night went to a barbecue over in Rahoon. Irish pork sausages on the grill are divine--had only had them cooked in a pan before.
Thursday night played halo with boys. Managed to come in 3rd out of 4. w00t. It wasn't that I got killed a lot necessarily, but the map was so huge that I just ran around on my own a lot. It was a good night.
Later addition:
Inspired by my stumbling, here's what I made for dinner:
Fried mozzarella, topped with caramelized onions, on a bed of briefly-sauteed spinach perched in tomato sauce. The sauce came from a jar, but everything else was me own. Perhaps will add pictures. I plated it rather nicely, if I do say so myself.

Comparing Hamels, Kazmir and Lester
Cole Hamels, Scott Kazmir, and Jon Lester are three of the most promising left-handed pitchers in the game today. Lets compare.

COLE HAMELS
Team: Philadelphia Phillies
Date of Birth: December 27, 1983 (age 25)
This year's salary: $4,350,000
Last year's stats: 14-10 with a 3.09ERA, 196 strikeouts
This year's stats: 0-2 with a 9.69ERA, 11 strikeouts
Why he's awesome: The Phillies won the World Series last year and he was the MVP of the series. Plus he's smokin' hot.
SCOTT KAZMIR
Team: Tampa Bay Rays
Date of Birth: January 24, 1984 (age 25)
This year's salary: $6,000,000
Last year's stats: 12-8 with a 3.49ERA, 166 strikeouts
This year's stats: 3-1 with a 3.97ERA, 17 strikeouts
Why he's awesome: Besides that picture? Well he's the ace on a very promising Tampa Bay Ray rotation, although they're in last place in the East right now.

JON LESTER
Team: Boston Red Sox
Date of Birth: January 7, 1984 (age 25)
This year's salary: $1,000,000 (thought he was making more, like $5mil a year)
Last year's stats: 16-6 with a 3.21ERA, 152 strikeouts
This year's stats: 1-2 with a 4.88ERA, 26 strikeouts
Why he's awesome: Uhm, where do I start? He beat cancer, got the win for the clinching game in the 2007 World Series, threw a no-hitter on May 19, 2008...
I'd still choose Jon Lester to be on my team. He is my favorite player on the Sox. All three have very comparable stats and we'll see who is the best of the 3 this season.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So today I went to the Red Sox/Yankees game. Coming in, the two teams had played two 4 1/2 hr games, both very bizarre but both ending in Red Sox wins. I was assigned to the Cumberland Farms deck. We got there and there wasn't anyone sitting there, which was weird. Then the entire BU hockey team shows up in those stupid uniforms. The worst/best part? Only about 5 of them were there at a time.
Why this was good: I don't want to look at them that much. Also I had an excellent view without anyone in front of me. Since it was BU's "private section" they didn't let anyone else in. YESSSS.
Why this was bad: I don't even want to know how much those seats cost and they were frolicking about Fenway, wasting their opportunity to watch an amazing game. Pshhhh... losers.
Oh yeah, and during the game, JACOBY ELLSBURY STOLE HOME. Like...what? Fenway went absolutely nutso. If you get the chance, definitely find a video of that. It's fantastic. And against the Yankees, it's supersweet. Plus the Red Sox won 4-1. It was a good day at Fenway.

Moment of Silence
For BC Athletics 2008-2009.
BC Men's Hockey and Basketball both ended their respective seasons in heartbreaking losses last night. BC basketball traveled to Minnesota as the #7 seed and was beaten by 17 points by #10 USC.
BC hockey played BU in the Hockey East semifinals. First of all, I had a splitting headache. I had to go to the TD Banknorth Garden's First Aid station for about an hour. Too much noise! I have no idea why I felt like crap. Anyways. It was 1-0 us, then BU scored 3 goals in 44 seconds. THREE GOALS IN FORTY FOUR SECONDS. Holy fucking shit. I came back and Joe Whitney had scored a goal for us making it 3-2. There are two images from that game that are currently cemented in my brain: one is that last shot off of the faceoff with about 5 seconds left. The rebound was batted away by a BU player and they won right there. The second is Brock Bradford's face after we lost. He seriously looked like he had been shot.
I was fortunate enough to go with the pep band in a bus to the Garden, but BU fans were being utterly brutal to us in just the short walk back to the bus. They gave us crap about our basketball team (does BU even have a basketball team?) and the fact that there weren't many BC people there. I hate BU. They will not win a National Championship this year, all their good players will go pro, and we will get them next year. Go UMass Lowell with your awesome jazz I mean pep band.
We still have the Bruins, who I know will pull out of this slump quite gracefully with a win over New Jersey tomorrow. I'm going to the Bruins game on March 31st against the Tampa Bay Lightning. And don't forget about those Red Sox! I'm doing the green team again this year and I'm totally going to 3 games in a span of about 10 days and that's including a Yankees game on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball! So excited. I hope I see Jon Lester pitch again.
I cannot stop listening to the Decemberists' new album the Hazards of Love. It's fucking amazing. Colin Meloy is a mastermind.
Now I'm trying to get started on two nursing papers in a FREEZING study room. I have a mid-term on Tuesday, but that's in my film class so I'm not too worried about it. Tonight I would like to get very drunk.

Vegetables
So I bought this microwave meal thing, that tastes really good, actually. It's got penne pasta, pea pods, mushrooms, peas, and broccoli romanesco, which I had never heard of before. The broccoli thing is good, but slightly disconcerting in appearance. It's a fractal vegetable, if that makes sense.

It looks less creepy in the mix, as each piece is like only one of those pointing things. Still, I'm just pretending it's real broccoli.
In any event, I'm being healthy.

Cancelled Clinicals and New Decemberists
Hello from snowy Chestnut Hill!
My clinical that was supposed to occur tomorrow was cancelled due to an outbreak of the Norwalk Virus on the floor. Apparently 20 staff members are sick. If I had clinical tomorrow, I'd be getting up in 3 hours! I'll have (way) less work to do this weekend, but I'll have to make up the clinical in May. Yuck.
Demetri Martin has a new show and I love it. The skits could use a little work, but his standup is great as ever. Here are some quotes from his segment Me vs. You
Me: Police, You: Campus Police
Me: Feather, You: Ticklish man sitting in rocking chair on edge of cliff
I think the new Decemberists song "The Wanting Comes in Waves" is effing amazing. It's got a little Sweeney Todd in it and some 60s distortion rock. Shara Worden singing over that is perfection. This song, way more than the two others that I've heard from the upcoming album, really, really indicates a rock opera. Gosh I hope the rest of it is good.
Oh yeah and... How do you spell Canada?
C-eh?-N-eh?-D-eh?

Sunday...
A few things happened today:
-I went to Panera to do work. My Concept Care Map took me forever and the Goals portion of it took me just as long. If I don't get an A on this one I'm quitting. Or I'll be all passive aggressive about the situation and I'll proclaim that I'm quitting.
-It's really awkward being at Panera for a long time. I was pressured into buying a coffee after lunch. Oh well. It was yummy. I also bought a Crepe at that Paris Crepe place. Mmmm.
-30 Rock is one of the smartest, wackiest shows on TV. The episode that premiered two weeks ago, "Generalissimo," was really amazing. Quote: "Have you ever tasted scotch? It’s terrible! And this thing they call 'box seats at the Rangers game'? It’s so cold! And what is Rohypnol?"
-The Red Sox are in Fort Myers for Spring Training! Apparently Pedroia has stopped eating ice cream. Uh... yeah. But the bffs are back!
-BC Men's Hockey tied last night 4-4. The captain got his 100th collegiate point and we didn't lose by 6 goals. Yay!
-BC Men's Basketball beat #5 Duke at home. I hate basketball, but this is actually a BIG DEAL.
-I went to Trader Joe's to get some stuff and the total came out to $6.66. Uh...
-Tomorrow I have my maternity clinical so I should probably go to sleep. G'night!

BC Hockey = Epic Fail pt. 2
Last night the BC Hockey team lost 6-0. It was horrific. In the spirit of Friday the 13th, it was like BC was the camp counselors and UMass Lowell was Jason (or more technically, Jason's mom). Pure pwnage. BC was (kind of) trying. We were ahead on the shots on goal until the third period (btdubs, UML scored 4 goals in the 3rd period). But as Yoda says "Do or do not, there is no try." We didn't do ANYTHING. NOTHING. It doesn't count if it's not on the scoreboard. You have failed me, BC Hockey. You have failed me.
In other EPIC FAIL news I spent all Saturday and Sunday on a Concept Care Map for my Adult Clinical and I got a C+. WTF.
In sad news, I am in a study room in a dorm building listening to the Decemberists and doing my Concept Care Map for this week. On a Saturday. On Valentine's Day. Wow. This sucks. And I'll probably get a C- on this one. How unfair is that.
In good news, all the catchers and pitchers are in Fort Myers for Spring Training. Yay!

Seduction is ok
I look forward to the start of baseball season as well, however am sad I won't be able to see any until May. I suppose I will have to be content with watching Rugby players.
Uh, rugby. I mean rugby. I appreciate the sport. Just like baseball. Not the men.
Yeah.
In other news, because you wanted to know, I have some terrible blisters right now from too much dancing.

Yay Red Sox!
Jon Lester is the first player to report to Fort Myers for Spring Training. He is 8 days early (why?!) but you know what that means... the season is starting! And I love that we have Tek back.
Also Jon Lester apparently got married a few weeks ago, which puts a minor hiccup in my plans to seduce him. Oh well.

BC Hockey = Epic Fail
Miraculously I still have hope for the season, but losing 6-1 in round one of the Beanpot merits an EPIC FAIL label. And there's one player in particular who epic failed the most. His last name rhymes with shmuse. Apparently this goalie decided to suck at an extremely inopportune time. Last year, when he was a freshman he played every minute of every game. He has never seen another person play his position while he's been at BC. But after letting in 6 goals, the coach decided hey! enough is enough.
“We’ll look at the tape and [the goalie in question] will learn from it,” said BC's coach. “I’m a big baseball fan and I watched Sandy Koufax get shelled some nights and then he comes back and wins [20] -something games. This wasn’t his night, but goaltenders have to bounce back from difficult outings.”
Very, very true. He's never been this tested at BC, but we'll see how he bounces back. That was extremely embarrassing though. Especially since the Northeastern goalie became a wall that controlled its rebounds.
Grrr. This made me mad. I get tired when I wake up at 4:30 for clinical.

We have to make another blog...
post.
Here are some musings:
-This semester is going to be harder, but I have a better feeling about it. My adult clinical is much more organized this semester than the last. I'm still at Mass General, but I'm on a different floor. The floor I was on last semester was an oncology floor and it was very depressing. It's nice to have patients this semester who will actually get discharged sooner or later.
-I can't wait to see babies being born during my maternity clinical on Mondays (also at Mass General). I know there are some gross things that go on during the whole birthing process (no elaboration needed) but I still think it'll be fun. I have orientation this coming Monday and my first day the Monday after that.
-I don't really mind getting up early anymore. It sucks but I have to do it so whatever.
-Lost is effing amazing.
-Andrew Bird's new album is fantastic and I can't wait to see him on Friday!
-When I was walking over to the library some clueless people (in a car with an NJ license plate) asked me where upper campus was. I was giving them directions but they were like "No, we want to drive through it." I didn't know where the exact entrance was and told them that. They asked me about living on Upper and I said I didn't live on Upper freshman year. The wife got mad and told the husband that I "didn't know anything" and that they should leave. I kind of felt like a 'tard. I'm glad my parents never did that to an actual BC student.
-WHY DO I HAVE SO MUCH WORK TO DO ALREADY?
-If the BC Men's Hockey team doesn't win tonight I think that the season will end up being mighty unsuccessful. But I do say that every year...
-I miss Katherine!!!
